the governor of new york
I know I'm in the minority on this, but I think prostitution should be legal (I also have the radical opinion that most "street drugs" should be legalized, but that's a topic for another day). It isn't. I realize that Elliot Spitzer broke the law by hiring prostitutes and that he knew that he was breaking the law, but what I hate is how in America the inclination is to jump on somebody when they're down, to humiliate and degrade a whole family, especially when it's just for one of these "victim-less crimes". This should be an issue only between the accused and his wife, it's a personal matter. I admire her for sticking by him, even encouraging him to stay in office, and I think it's too bad he resigned as governor today, under incredible pressure even from the hypocrites in his own party. Meanwhile, we have elected officials that are war criminals, responsible for tens of thousands of deaths, and they still hold their positions.

I won't make a comment on your entire post. I will say I agree with 95% of what you said. I also agree that most street drugs should be legalized. I think no one should feel forced to leave their position, I would have liked a full investigation about using government money if thats what it took although it didn't need to be public in any way, only looked at if there were federal violations. I think whats funny is people acted like prostitution isn't huge among the rich and powerful both. I do think his wife is a joke for standing by him, but at least it wasn't as bad as Mcgreevy. It's one thing to stand by him, but I wouldn't have done it in public. Then again, I forgive nothing so I never understand. I know we probably have varying opinions, but like I said I do agree with nearly all of what you said.
My guess is that there wasn't a lot of "forgiving" to be done. I bet she knew about the arrangement, maybe even with her consent, and I bet there are a lot of similar "arrangements" like that, even among the people who were ready to impeach. It's up to the Spitzers and nobody else to define the nature and limits of their relationship.
Yeah media has gotten out of control and then they wonder why people need to visit rehab 80 times in a year and why it constantly fails. I'm glad no one notices me personally, i wouldn't want fame or whatever comes of it.
