alternatives to Orff

It was a space-cadet weekend for me. I think I was a bit over-medicated.

I had planned on being at Nancy's in North Carolina over the weekend to help her out with some stuff and have some good quality brother-sister time. For some normality, we even had tickets Saturday night to attend a concert by the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, which was doing a violin concerto by Mendelssohn and Carmina Burana by Karl Orff.

None of that worked out, though. Instead, I spent Saturday night at home in Minneapolis drifting off on the sofa while watching a couple of early-40s films on Turner Classic Movies -- Now, Voyageur (Bette Davis) and Since You Went Away (Claudette Colbert). There's nothing like a couple of extreme melodramas to complement some nice hallucinations.

Feeling more normal today. We'll see what happens next.

Sorry, there is no fitting substitute for the Carmina Burana!

I remember Claudette Colbert...she died an untimely death if I remember correctly and left a small son for her husband (whose name escapes me-someone like bill bixby)to raise. I was fairly young but I remember the heartbreak just the same.

Hi Muse -- your post got me curious, of course, so I Googled Claudette Colbert and found that she had died in 1996 at age 92... Untimely?.. Small son?.. Hmm, maybe not.

you're right, though, about Carmina Burana.. and I enjoy your blogsite, by the way. H. :-)

I wonder who it is I am thinking of...I remember this very distinctly...Claudette...brown hair big doe eyes. Oh wait that was most of the women in the 60's and 70's.

I'll do some diggin' as well.

How's this for a stretch: You mentioned Bill Bixby... maybe you've drifted back into the old 60s TV show, The Courtship of Eddie's Father?? -- Eddie's Father (played by Bill Bixby), widowed, left to raise a small son (Eddie)... Bixby's character was named Tom Corbett, although who the heck knows what the name of the dead mother was...

Hey Et, Did some digging myself...I think I may have stories mixed up...I think the woman I was thinking of was Claudine Longet she was married to Andy Williams for awhile. She accidently shot and killed her olympic skier lover. Remember? I think I remember being distraught over the fact that she would be going to jail and someone else would be raising her children. But who knows? We are talking about...35+ years ago. Anyway, she's still alive as well

Do I remember? Ha! I'm one of the last remaining Claudine Longet fans in the world. I still have all her albums. She was so misunderstood! :-)
