We're starting to help James find an apartment -- something an inner-city college student can afford, yet something not too scary. It's an eye-opening experience. The rental market has tightened up these days since fewer people can afford to buy a home, and I think some landlords are taking advantage of these kids. It's easy to see how college graduates end up with so much debt by the time they're done with school.

Might be more affordable if you guys weren't looking in the most expensive parts of the city... just a thought. :-)
we aren't looking in the most expensive parts of the city. we are looking for basic, just not grunge.
Hope you all find a way! After rent, utilities, cable, internet, laundry, and food it's crazy expensive and I am glad I didn't go on my own at his age because I would have never made it, lol.
I know of an apartment building where the rent isn't too high and the next-door neighbors are great! I think they have a vacancy too.
Don't you not like unannounced guests though?
@Ruthie: at least he doesn't have kids and a dog -- that helps!.. :-)
@Jon: Every place has its plusses and minuses, and I've heard that the place you are suggesting has an obsessive gardener next door!

I'm tempted to just drop by one day with both kids now.
Wouldn't it be a shame to drive all the way from Hopkins and then have no one answer the door when you arrive? :-)
I'll just hang with the kids in the backyard until you're home. Should make for a fun looking garden. :)
I didn't say I wouldn't be home; I said no one would answer the door... but if the kids are going to be out there trampling the garden, maybe I should reconsider that.
or I can just leave them there so you feel obligated to watch them. :-)
